The first thing you should know is that Google Pay is a payment platform, but it also acts as a wallet. That is, you can have money accumulated in it or pay directly by linking it with your card or with other payment methods.

It is created by Google, hence its name and uses modern NFC technology (Near Field Communication) with the aim of making secure transactions.

This platform helps to simplify payments in stores almost as much as possible since they only require a couple of clicks. In addition, it has an extra advantage, and that is not having to give the card information, nor the shipping information, because everything is done automatically.

Is Google Pay safe?

Now that you know Google Pay a little better, you may wonder if it is reliable, if you can make purchases or offer it as a payment method and nothing happens. And the truth is that yes. To begin with, and as we told you before, Google Pay is going to hide your card numbers. What you will do is use a kind of virtual card related to yours to keep your data safe.

Include Google Pay in WooCommerce

If you use Woocommerce, the steps to install it would be the following:

  • The first thing would be to have WordPress and WooCommerce installed on your hosting, and from there set up the store.
  • Next, you would have to go to the WooCommerce panel within the WordPress dashboard. You have to go to the settings and from there to payment.
  • You have to enter the Stripe payment method which, with some exceptions, will be installed by default. Otherwise, what you can do is install it as a plugin.
  • Once you connect your online store with Stripe, you will have to enter the WordPress configuration to now go to the settings that come from Stripe.
  • There you will see that it allows you to include Google Pay (or its logo, a G followed by the word Pay). Enable it and you will have the Google Pay button on your payment gateway.

In case you don't like how Stripe works, there is another plugin that you can also enable to give you multiple payment methods, such as WooCommerce Payments. In addition to the Google method, but also credit cards, debit cards and local and digital payment methods.

Include WooCommerce in Shopify

In the case of Shopify, so I have read on your blog, integration with Google Pay only available in the United States, so we will have to wait a while for them to bring it to Spain.

This integration is done through Shopify Payments and is activated in the store's own settings, so you only have to place the order. They are in charge of configuring everything so that it is well enabled and working in just a few seconds.

Once you have it installed, you should familiarize yourself with the payment method in this way. To do this, you have to understand that Google Pay requires a payment method to be selected in order to use it. It can be a credit card or PayPal.

Now, browse your online store and locate a product. Choose Google Pay as the payment method and that will cause the app to ask you to confirm the payment method. Once you do so, you will be able to purchase with Google Pay, always with prior authorization of what will be done to prevent that payment from not being carried out.

For example, imagine that you are in a clothing store and you liked a pair of pants. But you've never bought from the store before, and although you've read that you can return it if you don't like it, you're reluctant to give your card details to a store you don't know.

In the payment methods you can find PayPal, but they charge a commission (something common since the company does not pay the money that PayPal withdraws for the transaction). Then you look at Google Pay. This option allows you to maintain the security of your card, because you do not have to give it to them, and at the same time you can place the order without paying more (although this depends on each business).

If you can install Google Pay in your eCommerce, don't think about it, because it is a payment method that is increasingly used and the fact of not having to give a credit card or other payment method means there is more security for users. customers, making them buy more easily. Have you installed it already? How does it work for you? We read you in comments.
