Just this week the parliament, together with the consulate and the commission have reached an agreement to end geo-blocking that prevented European Union consumers from purchasing products or services within the United States.
According to the European Union statement, "These changes will increase e-commerce for the benefit of consumers and businesses."
Now the consumers in the European Unionthey will be able to buy products online, rent cars or get concert tickets across borders. For example, consumers will now not be required to pay with a credit or debit card that is registered in another country.
End to EU geo-blocking
This is excellent news mainly for customers, now with these new rules they will be able to choose themselves in which store they would like to buy their products or services, without being blocked or directed to other pages, however, we will not be able to enjoy it until the following year.
The next step could be to start lower prices on intercontinental shipments, an aspect that still discourages many consumers from making purchases through the United States.
However, stores do not have the obligation to sell and regulation does not guarantee that prices will adjust. The only thing that is sought is that discrimination is not generated in the access of products or services in cases where they cannot be objectively justified.
Hopefully these new changes in the regulations for buying online will expand the market and opportunities to all buyers and businesses in Europe. Although the blockade has been released, there are still a great series of impediments or difficulties in doing business effectively with other countries around the world, especially with the most remote ones.
